I wrote this song at a particularly low, tenuous place in my life; high school exams loomed, relationships were tested, and I was nearing the end of my childhood, nearly 18. I was unprepared for everything. I felt scared, and weak, and self-conscious for being so scared and weak.

I found a lot of comfort in being around nature, at the beach I grew up on, listening to artists who I felt I could relate to– Nick Drake being my favourite. The lyrics are very reflective of all these ideas “I’m paler than the shore or sea” and “I’m greener than weeds in water still”.

Much has changed over the past year, but this song remains my favourite one I’ve ever written. I think it speaks to anyone feeling lost or unprepared for change. It terrified me to be so vulnerable and truthful about my feelings until I realised that was the point of creating your own music; anything less than 100% honest is a waste of time.
